During the Christmas holidays, many people like to decorate the interior and exterior of their house. Some, though, might not have the time or energy to do their best work as a result of work, holiday shopping, and spending time with family. So, what is a Christmas lover to do when they don’t have the time or energy to do decorate for Christmas properly?
Instead of foregoing the decorating process altogether, some people at least attempt to get in the holiday spirit, often with hilarious results. Then again, some people are just plain lazy but still want to decorate. Of course, their laziness is bound to shine through in their decorating efforts.
Here are some pictures of times when people were too lazy (or just didn’t have the energy) to decorate for Christmas, so they got creative instead!
1) Blow-Up Christmas Decorations
This homeowner at least put up something. Here is his attempt, an inflatable snowman hunter and some nice, tasty animals gathered around the Christmas tree for him to hunt. And while it is only inflatable decorations, it kind of speaks to the truth of the holiday season for some.
2) The Christmas Ladder
Why put up a Christmas tree when you can put up a Christmas ladder instead? My question is, does he put it up in the house or does he leave it out in the yard as shown here?
3) The Copycat
This copycat. Why put up your own decorations when you can latch onto your neighbor’s instead. This homeowner obviously saw no point in competing with his neighbor for the best light display on the block.
4) Washi Tape Wall Trees
A growing trend in decorating is to use Washi tape to place a tree design on the wall. While it does look pretty and stylish, it does not compare to the feel and smell of a real or artificial Christmas tree. It actually seems like a bit of a cop out to me.
5) Just Hanging Lights
Who can forget the classic movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? This homeowner is clearly a fan, as he recreated the classic Christmas light-hanging scene from the film. It also takes little to no decorations, making this the perfect lazy decorating idea.
6) Decorated Wall Tree
Here is another wall tree, this one made of a light strand. I actually like this one better than the Washi tape designs, as at least it tries to incorporate an item customarily used to decorate a real tree.
7) Coke Can Manger
Aww, here is a nativity scene with an updated look. Little Jesus in the manger as Maria, Jose, and an angel look on. Though, the cardboard box stable is looking a little dilapidated. What will people think of next?
8) A Little Tree Christmas Part 1
When you don’t have a Christmas tree, use a Little Tree car deodorizer instead. And its pine scent even smells like a real tree. You should also hang it over the Christmas presents with a back scratcher for good measure.
9) The Grinch
It looks like this homeowner is somewhat of a Grinch. At least he is creative about his lack of motivation to decorate. I wonder if the Grinch also took all of their presents and the Christmas food too?
10) Christmas Pots
Need some instant decorations for your deck during the holiday season? Simply throw some pine cones, ornaments, and fake pine branches in a flower pot. This idea gives you a way to use your flower pots all year long.
11) Noncommittal X-Mas Tree
In lieu of a Christmas tree, you use what you’ve got to decorate for the season. Which by the look of this couple’s attempt was a keg, three boxes of Canada Dry, and a safety cone. At least they could have added some lights to tie it all together.
12) Styrofoam Plate Snowmen
What do you do when you have Styrofoam plates, some string, and some construction paper? Why, make snowmen decorations to hang over the fireplace. On second thought, this idea is not so bad. I wonder if I’ve got these items around my house so I can make some too?
13) The Laundry Tree
What do you do when you have dirty laundry around Christmas time? Of course, you have to make a laundry tree. Just make sure to use somewhat Christmassy colors and throw a star on top for good measure. I’m so doing this next year.
14) Decorated Door Tree
When all you have are some lights, ornaments, and a ribbon, it is time to make a door tree. While not as bad looking as some of the other decorating attempts, this is still a far cry from a good attempt to decorate a home during the holiday season.
15) Repurposed
This person clearly believes that no resources should go wasted. Why put away that creepy Halloween butler decoration when you can turn it into a creepy Santa decoration instead? I mean, a guy who sneaks into your house while you are sleeping is pretty creepy, so it kind of fits.
16) A Twig and Flower Christmas
This creative person made a Christmas tree using nothing but some twigs, fabric, flowers, and wire. I guess it is better than nothing, but at least if it was nothing you wouldn’t have to clean it up later.
17) Australian Christmas Tree
I’m curious if this is actually a tree in Australia (it does get pretty darn hot there) or somewhere in the South. Australians in fact do celebrate Christmas, but instead of a large holiday meal, they have a barbecue with seafood mixed in with the traditional English food.
18) The Chalk Tree
OK, admittedly, this decorating idea is pretty cool looking, and it cleans up easily once the holidays are over. I personally still prefer the look and feel of a living or artificial tree. But I guess with someone who doesn’t want to put forth the effort, this is a pretty nice-looking alternative.
19) Ball of Lights
This person is more lazy than clever, in my humble opinion. I guess they can say the lights are up when their wife asks, but barely. It is also a disservice to the neighborhood if everyone else actually took the time to decorate their home.
20) High-Tech Christmas
I’ve noticed that some homeowners have taken to projecting a laser onto the front of their house as an easy way to decorate. So, it was only inevitable that someone also do the same with their Christmas tree. I have a feeling the Christmas spirit is pretty low in this home.
21) Ghetto Christmas Tree
This poor believer … who doesn’t understand how ghetto his Christmas tree is. At least he seems happy about it. At least his parents spare no expense on their stockings. I just wonder if this is the norm for him since he doesn’t seem to care one bit that he doesn’t have a tree.
22) Another Decorated Wall Tree
Here is another decorated wall tree, though this one is not as nice as the previous wall trees. It looks like whoever designed it also thought it was a good idea to hang the presents on the wall beside the tree.
23) Anticlimactic Christmas Tree
This girl, who first decided to go big, then decided, f-it, I’m going home. It looks like she also took all of her presents with her. Poor, tiny tree all alone without any presents. Maybe the tree got shrunk and it has presents around it, but they are shrunk too?
24) Christmas Crutches
When you work in a hospital you decorate with what is available to you. In this case it seems like that was three crutches and whatever decoration that is. Hopefully, the staff didn’t take away some poor patient’s crutches to make this decoration.
25) That’s a Wrap
This husband had no time for cleanup at the end of the holidays. I mean, why put it away when you have to dig it all out again the next year? #lifehack or lazy? I’ll let you decide. #whenhubbycleansupthechristmasdecor
26) Last Minute
Here is a last-minute decorating idea. Throw some black dots and an orange triangle on a door to make an easy snowman. I just hope your door is white. Otherwise, you might have a weird-looking snowman on your hands.
27) The Christmas Box
This person finally stepped up to the plate when no one in her office would take the Christmas tree out of the box and decorate it. As a matter of fact, it was not too badly done. Now that’s what we like to call #initiative.
28) A Charlie Brown Christmas Tree
What do you do when all you have is the branch from a pine tree and a single bulb? Make a tree like Charlie Brown of course. If you’re lucky, all of your friends will come along and turn it into a beautiful tree on Christmas Eve.
29) Meh
The person who felt just “meh” about Christmas. But they must not have felt too meh, as the lights are arranged wonderfully. I think it is more than likely that they do care about the holiday season but wanted to make a social statement.
30) Christmas Skeleton
Lazy, but creative people can find a variety of imaginative ways to decorate for Christmas around their home. Take this skeleton for instance. Throw on some lights, and viola, instant holiday cheer.
31) A Little Tree Christmas Part 2
This girl who couldn’t be bothered to put up a tree. This person didn’t even take the time to hang the tree over the presents and just taped it to the wall. They have no imagination. I wonder why they even tried at all.
32) The Christmas Door
Here is another door decorated for Christmas. Did the decorator make a tree or a snowman? No, they just threw up some ribbon and called it a day. I wonder if there is a present on the other side?
33) The Lazy Decorator
Another jokester who believes in making the best use of his time. “Honey, I finally finished the Christmas decorations!” Little does his wife know that it looks like they killed Santa and buried him real shallow in the front lawn.
34) Halloween + Christmas
According to this homeowner you can reuse your old Halloween pumpkins as Christmas decorations. Just turn them around and write Merry Christmas on the back in marker. This same homeowner is also known by the neighbors as being somewhat of a cheapskate.
35) The Birthday Party
This guy felt like killing two birds with one stone. I mean, it is legit. It is the guy’s birthday and all that. I would just think someone who is that into the “real reason for the season” would put forward a little more effort.
36) The Chemistree
When all you have for decorations are some old beakers. Just fill them with water and add some food coloring, and you have instant ornaments. Of course, it is no longer a Christmas tree but instead is a chemistree. Get it, chemis-tree?
37) The Bottle Tree
Wine bottles make a perfect Christmas tree, according to some wine drinkers. All you need is some wine bottles and something to hang them on. Of course, the final look of the project depends on how much time they gave themselves to drink all of that wine.
38) An Alcoholic Christmas
Since many alcoholics spend a majority of their money on alcohol, they have little money for anything else, including Christmas decorations. Resourceful alcoholics, on the other hand, can come up with a wide variety of decorating ideas using bottles, as shown here.
39) Blowup Wreath
Why waste money on the real thing when you can get this blowup wreath. Tacky, but it does get the idea across. These are probably the same people who buy blowup furniture for their home.
40) The Keg Tree
Another idea from the alcoholics, a keg Christmas tree. Save up those kegs because come the end of the year, you are going to need them to make a lighted Christmas tree in the yard. If you have any left over, just roll them down to the store to get back your deposit. That way you can get an early start on next year.
