They did a great job, too.

Since we have all been cooped up in lockdown, the boredom is finally starting to get to us. There are only so many movies you can watch and TV shows you can binge… There comes a point where you just have to do something drastic like cut off your hair or finally start your Youtube Vlog career.

For a lot of artists though, self-isolation has led them to actually get more creative with what they got. If their studio or instruments were taken away from them, then they are now using this time as an opportunity to find new uses for what they already have at home.

Victory Family Church has done several jam sessions now but it was only until recently, while they were in lockdown because of the pandemic, that they decided to get even more creative than usual.

Since they were all stuck at home, they decided to try using what they already had: Kitchen utensils.

It sounds like a challenging task — and it definitely is — but they also managed to nail it.

They decided to cover “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin, a particularly fitting choice given the situation that we’re in. It is definitely bound to put you in a good mood if you have been feeling down about everything going on in the world.

The video starts out with a typical quarantine conversation between two friends — talking about eating ramen for dinner, etc. Then when one of them closes the door to their microwave, they notice it has a mysteriously musical sound. Like it could be used as a great percussive instrument.

And then the music begins.

Using the sound of microwave doors, refrigerator doors, wine glasses, toasters, timers, coffee mugs, blenders, spatulas, wooden cutting boards, and more, the rest of the team chime in with a solid beat. They all get into the rhythm as they lay the foundation for what is about to come next.

Then the rest of the singers come in, singing some perfectly-pitched notes altogether. Each member takes turns singing a line of the song and they all do a great job exhibiting their smooth tones and vibrato!

There is even an “instrumental break,” where everyone whistles together in unison. Everyone looks so happy.

One of the most impressive parts comes at the end, where several people use the buttons on their microwaves to actually play the melody. We have no idea how they managed to do that, but it definitely does not sound like an easy thing to do.

At the end, everyone starts doing ad-libs and improvising over the main melody and it is so good.

It is so wonderful to see and hear all of these people work together in perfect harmony, especially during these times. Everyone has their own duty in the song and does it really well.

The best part is that instead of feeling down, they decided to use what they had to make a beautiful piece of art that is bound to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
