Parents can be a great influence and have a tremendous effect on our lives and futures. When we are infants they are our protectors and as we grow they help shape and guide us through the ins and outs of life. We depend on them to help us become the best version of ourselves in the world.

My parents growing up tried to support the things we showed talent or interest in. For my brother, it was art, and they bought him all the paints and paper he could ever want. His talent grew as he got older and it was with the help of our parents he learned what an amazing artist he really was. It was the same for me with sports, they drove me all over the state and watched every game.

Encouragement from parents can mean all the difference in a child’s life and can be a key driving force for them to find what they love.

Andrew Edgerton, an 18-year-old rising YouTube star, can speak to the importance of the love and support he has received from his father. Over a year and a half ago Andrew launched a YouTube channel where he began to post videos on makeup and tutorials on application processes etc.

His videos are gaining in popularity, now having accumulated over 27,000 views. His father stated in an interview, “Since he started putting on makeup … I have been so impressed with his ability to do the looks he wanted, especially in such a short period of time”.

While he clearly has an amazing talent, Andrew creates these videos to reach out to people, show what he’s got and to have some fun. The description biography on his page simply and beautifully says, “Just a boy who loves makeup! Let’s learn together!”. His father often pops his head in to see what Andrew is up to but it was on one particular day when Andrew was filming a look for Pride Month, that it was very obvious how much his dad supports him.

His father said, “I walked past Andrew’s room, and I noticed that he was doing a makeup look. I peeked my head in and was impressed with the work he had done”.

Andrew was creating a rainbow effect using some very enhanced blending skills and his father couldn’t resist telling him how good it looked. When you watch the video of Andrew’s tutorial, you can hear his dad’s admiration for his son’s talent “That looks so freaking awesome!”, you can hear his dad Glenn say in the background of the video.

His comment would be the YouTube moment heard around the world.

Andrew wanted to share this video to raise awareness for the importance a parent’s support can have on a child. And more specifically to those parents and children of the LGBTQ community.

“It’s so important for parents of children in the LGBTQ community to receive support at home,” Andrew said in an interview about the video.

He also shares that even if it makes them uncomfortable at first the most important thing for a parent to do is create a safe space for a child and show them they are loved and supported. Glenn is an amazing father and has shown this by supporting all of Andrew’s future goals in life. Stating “I think his endeavor to work within the makeup industry is awesome and I am just trying to be as supportive as I can.”

We know you are as touched as we are, so please SHARE this amazing moment with your friends and family.
