At Port Kembla Hospital, a charming deaf bulldog named George loves to visit palliative care patients and putting a smile on their faces.
Battling sickness is not easy; there will be times where you will feel that you are ready to lose all hope but you just have to fight and sometimes, an angel is sent to cheer you up.
Meet George Wilson, the handsome, naughty, but softie therapy dog. He seems to know what to do to make patients in the palliative care feel happy. He doesn’t even need a leash and didn’t attend any training. He’s a natural in making people feel happy.
In fact, he is able to cheer them up, doing his best to show them that he’s there for them. George the therapy dog is deaf so it’s amazing how he knows these things as well. Together with Jai Wilson, his owner, they visit Port Kembla hospital and give joy to its patients.
Jai Wilson’s father died because of cancer and to cope up with the pain and grief, she bought a puppy and named the little cutie George.
What’s amazing is that this little puppy’s birthday is May 8, which is also the birthday of Jai’s father – George Wilson –. Now you know where he got his name!
She had depression and this little bundle of joy changed her life! Though, that’s not all, who would have thought this beautiful dog would help patients smile?
“He was great for me when I was dealing with grief and loneliness after my dad’s death,” Jai said to Illawarramercury. “Then one day we were walking down near Lake Illawarra and there was a family there having a picnic – George just went and joined them and didn’t want to leave.
The patients from Port Kembla Hospital adore George! He’s a darling and for the past 2 years, Jai and George would visit the patients in the hospital. It’s already a part of their routine and George wouldn’t go to the hospital without his fancy outfits!
“He’ll just spend time with the patients and cheering them up, meeting them and sitting with them,” Wilson said to 7News.
He would look them directly in their eyes, listen to them and even give them kisses. No one thought him how to do that. He does it from his heart.
The happiness that George gives to the patients in this hospital is beyond words. Some patients would just hug him, pet him, even talk to him.
Did you also know that handsome George has already become the face of his owner’s charity?
Deaf Dogs Rescue Australia is the name of the organization and he’s also the mascot for Dreams 2 Live 4. This organization grants wishes for patients with metastatic cancer.
“Through his Instagram page (which has 10,000 followers) he helps raise awareness of different cancers, and the symptoms people should look for,” Jai Wilson said to Illawarramercury.
Let us share the awareness that all dogs matter, deaf or not, they would grow up to be that wonderful joy that we will love.
