When Vega Blossom walked into her favorite bakery to order some cupcakes during an Easter sale, she thought it would just be like every other trip she has ever made there. She was planning on ordering six cupcakes to share with her friends and family.
The woman in front of her had ordered a cake, and it was taking a little while for her to get it.
A line had started to form, and some people were growing impatient. Vega could hear the two women behind her talking about the woman who was ordering the cake. They were saying mean things about her and were clearly frustrated with the situation.
The woman eventually got the cake and left the bakery. Before Vega could order her cupcakes, she heard the women say something awful about her. One of them said:
“Let’s hope this fat b**** doesn’t buy all the cupcakes.”
Vega was instantly upset and wasn’t sure what these women, who didn’t even know her, had such hateful things to say about her.
She said:
“When I heard the nasty things the women said, I honestly wanted to cry. It really hurt my feelings. How could these grown women be so mean to someone they’ve never met, let alone talked to?”
Vega had dealt with rude people before, but she expected more from grown women. These women were acting so rude and being so loud that she felt mortified. She added:
“Growing up [as] a chubbier girl, I always got snide comments about my weight from people who, for some reason, think it’s their business. Things like this usually wouldn’t bug me, but the fact that I didn’t know these women, and they said this so rudely and loudly — so I could obviously hear it — was different than other times.”
Vega wasn’t sure what to do at first.
She wanted to say something to them and also felt like running out the door crying. Then, she suddenly got an idea. She ordered every last cupcake in the store, making sure the women behind her didn’t get any of them.
Then, she decided to rub it in their faces. She explained:
“I looked the pair straight in the eye and asked, ‘Could you please open the door for me? My hands are a bit full.’ Reluctantly, one woman held the door open before following me outside. I think, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
Vega shared the cupcakes with her family, friends, and co-workers.
She felt slightly better knowing what she had done but she was still upset that these two women thought it was OK to talk to her like that. That’s when she got a surprise at work.
The bakery staff became aware of what had happened, and they were not happy about it. The fact that Vega had been through such an ordeal at their place of business bothered them, and they wanted to let her know that they were on her side.
Blossom posted on her Facebook page:
“Two days in a row now Designer Desserts-Valparaiso has delivered me cupcakes to work and I am honestly so thankful for these guys and everything they have done for me.”
The bakery owner also made a statement on the shop’s Facebook page.
They posted:
“This morning a very unsettling occurrence was brought to my attention,” the bakery wrote. “Designer Desserts-Valparaiso is a BULLY FREE ZONE and WILL NOT TOLERATE these disgusting types of attitudes. My sincere apologies go out to this beautiful young woman, and I cannot thank her enough for being such a loyal and amazing customer, we will be seeing you very soon.”
Of course, the women who had made the rude comment never confessed to them, but Vega’s post went viral, so it’s safe to say they have seen it by now. Hopefully, they have learned a valuable lesson: Rude people don’t get cupcakes, and it’s not nice to put others down.
