Waiters, waitresses, and bartenders get to talk to a lot of people every single day. What’s more, they have to deal with a lot of crazy and rude people — often ones who look down their noses at servers for no reason other than that they work in a restaurant or bar. The good thing about all this is it tends to give people in the foodservice industry a killer sense of humor. You have to have one to work these jobs or you might just go crazy.

Sometimes, servers go above and beyond when it comes to the funny things they say and do. Whether it’s perfecting skills only useful in their jobs or learning snarky ways to deal with nasty customers, they have plenty of tricks up their sleeve.

It takes a lot to maintain a positive attitude in a job that can be low-paying and often thankless. Anyone who has ever worked in the food and drink industry will tell you that it’s hard work. You have to deal with outrageous demands, bad tippers, rude comments, and people who consider the wait staff to be their own personal slaves. It’s no wonder that these servers have learned to have a thick skin.
