Things are not different when you are in Seoul, South Korea. Whenever it rains, the weather makes every place you go to a gloomy site. But, there is one group of designers who decided that Seoul should never be sad just because of the rainy weather. And so, they launched a project that brought back the color on the streets of Seoul in the midst of rain.

In collaboration with Pantone, this group of designers fought the gloomy atmosphere by painting the streets with vibrant colors that only appear when it’s raining. Their project is called “Project Monsoon”, which meant that their project is going to be launched on the annual monsoon season. In this period, their works of art shall give people a dose of happiness even when the sky is dark and everything is wet because of the rain.

Normally, the rainy season in Seoul takes place for about three weeks each year, which means that people are going to have a gloomy environment for the said length of time. But, the artists behind Project Monsoon don’t want people to spend any time feeling sad or down even just fr a day, so before the rainy season began, they made sure to launch the project for it to be ready for everyone to see when the first drop of rain falls on the ground.

Using special hydro chromatic paint, the artists will be painting the streets with colorful works of art that only appears when the pavement is wet. Instead of a cold, wet floor, the people will be seeing beauty and art in every puddled street.

“Inspired by South Korea’s culture of emphasizing the importance of the flow of rivers, the paintings utilize Korea’s topographical features that create a flow and puddle of rainwater in every street to fill the streets with color and life,” the artists write about their project.

Everything, after all, is about perspective. When a rainy day happens, most people just tend to go with the gloomy atmosphere and switch themselves into a more subdued mode. But, the artists behind Project Monsoon did not find the rainy season as a time for them to drop their shoulders and be as gloomy as the weather.

Instead, they viewed the annual monsoon season as a perfect opportunity to make people appreciate art and in the process, give these people a chance to see the rainy season in a whole new different light.
