When we think of our dogs, we see them as perfect… no matter what. And sometimes perfect things come in what some would see as imperfect packages. Even though our dogs might be physically impaired, such as being born without eyes or legs, they are still perfect to us.

Award-winning animal photographer Alex Cearns thinks all the dogs she photographs are perfect. But the ones with “imperfections” are extra special to him. That’s why he has compiled a book titled Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love which showcases these unique dogs.

“I love every animal I have the privilege of photographing. But those perceived as different hold a special place in my heart. These are the canines who have lost a leg, been born without eyes, or are still showing the scars of former abuse,” Cearns told My Modern Met.amazon.com/…Resilience-Love/dp/0733339182

Some proceeds from the book will be donated to the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation. The photos of these animals are truly inspiring. You can get a sneak peek of them in the slideshow below.
