Jack Vidgen arrived on the stage for a live performance of one of Adele’s best songs.
The twenty-two-year old’s blind audition left the judges unable to see him, but his voice was enough to make up for any loss of stage presence.
A stunning performance
Jacks’ words filled the building as he sang Adele’s ‘Hello.’
“Hello, can you hear me?
I’m in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I’ve forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet
There’s such a difference between us
And a million miles.”
In the background, images of raindrops hitting the pavement added to the dark emotion of the song.
His voice grew as the stunning performance continued. Jack has genuine vocal talent, and it shows.
He also has an incredible way of letting passion and pain flow through his words. Each word was as genuine as if he had written the lyrics himself.
The reaction
One by one, the judges hit the red buzzers, and their chairs spun around so they could finally see the singer behind the voice. Each looked shocked to see the baby faced singer who had stunned them so much with the power, emotion, and pure passion he had put into the lyrics.
They were amazed by the performance. They were even more amazed after they heard his story.
Delta had this to say about the performance:
“When they said we were going to have the biggest voices ever, I didn’t think they meant this big. I didn’t know it was possible.”
The audience cheered their agreement with the judge.
A story
Jack had become a well-known singer at the age of fourteen. But at twenty-two, he hadn’t been on a stage in five years.
The talented performer had taken a break from singing after traveling to the United States from Austalia on his own at the age of sixteen. He had spent a year there and struggled with the many roadblocks that seemed to be between him and his singing career.
He also witnessed a darker side of life that he wasn’t quite ready for at the age of sixteen.
It caused him to lose his passion for music for quite a while. He had been struggling with doubt about his own talent and abilities.
The choice
When asked what he wanted out of his time on The Voice, Jack said he was looking for a mentor. He wanted someone who could be there to support and guide him through his musical career.
Delta offered to be his mentor. So did Kelly. George offered his advice. Guy also offered, but he went beyond just the performances and focused on rebuilding the artist, dealing with and healing the emotional side.
They gave Jack the choice. It took him a little while to get there, but his decision was made. It would be Guy.
The crowd thought he made the right choice. We think he did too.
We hope to hear more amazing music come from the performer.
