If you’ve ever been to the zoo, you know that the lion is considered “king of the jungle.”
Lions are carnivores, meaning they are meat eaters. While they can weigh between 280 and 420 pounds, they only have around 30 teeth.
Their mouths look so big though, you’d think they are like sharks and look like they have over 100 in there. But in reality, the lion has just about the same amount of teeth as a human.
Would you ever believe that a 500-pound lion is best friends with an 11-pound dachshund? It sounds like a made-up story, but it is true!
Bonedigger is a disabled lion and Milo is his best little buddy. They’ve been inseparable ever since they met at the G.W. Exotic Animal Park (now The Greater Wynnewood Animal Park).
When Bonedigger was born, it was discovered he had a metabolic bone disease, which has made him mildly disabled. Milo and two other dogs realized Bonedigger was sick, so they began caring for him when he was just a lion cub.
Milo and Bonedigger are such great pals, that Milo cleans Bonedigger’s teeth out after dinner. I don’t think any other dog would be brave enough to stick their head in a lion’s mouth!
According to the park manager, John Reinke, he doesn’t think Bonedigger would let just any dog that close to him either.
“He wouldn’t be so friendly with other dogs – it’s all down to them being pals since he was a cub.”
Apparently, Milo even imitates his buddy, by trying to puff out his chest like a lion and tries to growl like Bonedigger. That type of growl is used by lions in the wild to communicate.
While many people who have seen the video fear for Milo’s life, other’s can appreciate the bond between Milo and Bonedigger. One commenter on YouTube said:
The most amazing thing about this video is not so much the lion’s affection for the dog, but the opposite, because the lion obviously doesn’t feel threatened by the dog, but you can’t really state the opposite. Loving a predator that can practically swallow you whole with one bite, for me anyway, is proof that beneath the ruthless but necessary instinct for survival, nature is not that cruel.
