One of the reasons why acts of kindness are so important is because they tend to stick with people. And hopefully, when the time is right, that person who was in need can eventually have the means to pay it forward and ignite a beautiful chain reaction.

That’s exactly happened with Missouri-based mother Shetara Sims, whose daughter was murdered back in 2012. When that horrific incident took place, the Kansas City Police showed her a true kindness that she has never forgotten, even to this day.

The police and detectives acted like “therapists, fathers and lifelines all in one,” the mother said of the incident. The police department showed her undying support that she could have never expected, but it was something that she so needed and appreciated.

Sims is a single mother and one of the millions of people who were hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, she was left without a job and had no money.

Until one day when she was walking in a parking lot and discovered a single dollar bill. So she picked it up and decided to use it to purchase a lottery ticket. Pleasantly to her surprise, she ended up scoring one hundred dollars!

Of course, after you win a hundred bucks the first thought that pops into your mind is: What do I do with it?

There’s no doubt that Sims’ family could have used the cash but her daughter, 12-year-old Rakiya Edmondson, actually suggested they donate it to the family of the cop who had been injured on the job not too long before.

It was an unexpected but respectable and selfless decision for her daughter to make all on her own.

“With her current financial hardship, we urged her to keep the money. She refused, saying the officer’s family needed it, and police needed to know they were supported,” KCPD shared via their Facebook page.

But the Sims family continued to insist, leaving the police department “floored and incredibly humbled.”

After sharing the story via the department’s social media, it quickly blew up. It turns out it wasn’t just the police department who was floored by the incredibly selfless deed — it was the rest of the world, too!

Everyone was so taken back, they decided to set up a GoFundMe for the Sims family so that people could go ahead and make a donation of their own to them. They definitely proved that they deserved it, that’s for sure!

What makes it even more amazing is that through the GoFundMe, people were able to raise over $100,00 for the mother and her family. That amount of money can make an enormous difference, especially right now!

When this family decided to donate pretty much all of their money to the police, the last thing they were probably ever expecting was to only get so much more money back in return. But it’s clear that they definitely deserve it!

It’s also amazing that a bunch of people who were technically strangers just decided to give their money all of a sudden. It’s because when people see you and how amazing of a person you are, they naturally want to lift you up!

And this all just goes back to what we said before: one kind act can ignite a thousand others. The police treated the mother kindly and then she returned the favor years later. And because she did that, she received some of the good karma right back. It’s kind of like an amazing boomerang!

We definitely have a whole lot of faith in humanity after this beautiful story. It just goes to show that if you truly are a good person with good intentions, karma will work in your favor.
