They say that revenge is sweet, but apparently, it can also be sparkly.
Mark Rober was tired of being victimized by thieves stealing packages off of his steps.
Especially since he caught the perpetrators on video. Despite this fact, the police said they were too busy to help him bring the thieves to justice.
So, Rober decided to get justice in his own way: vigilante style.
Rober is a YouTube star as well as an engineer.
Like a really good one. He’s a former NASA engineer that helped to design their Curiosity Rover.
So he decided to use his engineering knowledge to seek revenge.
And what he came up with is absolutely brilliant.
“Something needs to be done to take a stance against dishonest punks like this,” Rober said in his YouTube revenge video. “If anyone was going to make a revenge bait package and over-engineer the crap out of it, it was going to be me.”
And what did this NASA engineer’s creativity and genius come up with? A glitter fart bomb!
“This might be my Magnum Opus,” Rober said in the caption of his now viral video.
He spent six months engineering his glitter fart bomb. The bomb was hidden inside a package and contained GPS tracking and cameras.
When the thief opened the package it would unleash a pound of fine glitter (which is so hard to get rid of) and noxious fart spray.
The cameras inside the box would record the porch thieve’s reaction when they opened the box and got sprayed with glitter and fart smell.
As a nod to his prankster trick, he wrote Kevin McCallister,the hero from the movie “Home Alone,” as the name on the package’s fake label.
The reaction of the thieves was a mix of shock and amusement. And maybe even disappointment when they realized their treasure wasn’t worth anything.
According to CNBC, Xfinity Home says that 30 percent of Americans say they’ve had a missing or stolen package.
Police don’t typically bother with things like this and the FBI doesn’t keep statistics on it. But people like Rober want to see something done about it.
More than 52 million people have watched Rober’s videos which shows the thieves brought to sparkly flatulent justice.
“If the thief wasn’t in such a hurry they’d see that the package is actually coming from my childhood hero and the inspiration for this project,” Rober said. “So the moral of the story is, just don’t take other people’s stuff.”
Rober later, however, admitted that some of the thieves shown in the video were people he knew and the reactions were staged. You can read more about that here.
