As anyone who is a mother knows, caring for a newborn is both exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. While having children is certainly an incredibly rewarding experience, there is no arguing with the fact that it takes a lot of work and is very time-consuming.

Unfortunately, many moms these days are forced to make a very tough choice — either stay at home to take care of the baby, or put the infant in daycare so they can return to work.

Luckily, however, it seems our culture is slowly making some amazing progress in the right direction. A recent post that has been going viral on the Maryland Farms Chiropractic Facebook page demonstrates this best.

“Workin’ mamas.🤱” the post reads.

“She makes it look easy. It helps that Baby Nora-Jo is so sweet and content just being with and near her mama.
Would y’all mind sharing this? We need more small and large businesses to see this is doable and should be allowed more often! The newborn months are so short.”

Melody Jet Blackwell’s employer, Maryland Farms Chiropractic decided to make a very progressive decision. They allowed the new mother to bring her baby Nora-Jo into work with her.

It is amazing how a simple photo can say so much while at the same time help to change perspectives on what it means to be a “Workin’ mama”.

Many moms have to choose to between working to make money or staying home to take care of their child.

However, giving moms the option of bringing their infants into work with them opens up a lot of possibilities.

“I know not every office and work environment is conducive for children and babies, but I think more places can be more flexible than they are currently,” Blackwell told Love What Matters.

The catch-22 is normally that if moms do choose to go back to work, a large portion of their paychecks will likely have to be spent on expensive daycare, essentially negating the reason they are there in the first place.

“I think many families find it almost makes more financial sense for one parent to stay home, rather than go to work just to have most or all of their checks pay for daycare,” Blackwell said.

It’s really a hard situation to be in. However, Facebook posts like one this are helping to raise awareness of the issue.

Hopefully in the future, more employers will warm up to the idea of mother’s bringing their young children in with them to work, shattering the stereotypes that it will destroy productivity.

“Depending on the workplace, moms can bring their children to work and be productive. I hope that more moms in the future will get the opportunity that I have — to get to spend every day with my baby but also contribute to the family income,” added Blackwell.

Blackwell is proving to employers everywhere that it is possible to be both an employee and a mom at the same time. Thanks to stories like this, we are learning that it’s not always necessary to have to choose.
