When you hear the song, “I Will Always Love you,” do you think of Whitney Houston? Most likely because when she covered the song, it became a megahit. You might not know that Dolly Parton wrote the song and made it a #1 eight years earlier than Houston.
Most people might be annoyed that their sonG became more famous in the hands of someone else, but not Dolly Parton. (We’re sure the royalties don’t hurt either!) But then again, Dolly Parton is one of the world’s most loved celebrities for a good reason.
At the Country Music Awards, Dolly Parton won the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors an artist at the top of the industry, with a prominent place in humanitarian efforts and philanthropy.
To honor Dolly, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Jennifer Nettles, and Reba McEntire perform, serenading Dolly with her own words.
All of these women are established in the country music industry, some longer than others, but all loved by the audience and people worldwide.
And while these women sing, Dolly is all smiles and glistening eyes. The rest of the theater watch on in awe at the incredible performance.
People watching from home and retroactively are no different; commenters can’t get enough of their voices. One person writes, “What an amazingly talented group of women! Outstanding job for an OG! ❤️”
The OG, being Dolly Parton, is truly one of a kind. It would take this whole article to tell you all of her achievements and the awards she has won. Since 1957, before she was even a teenager, Dolly started her singing career.
And music is only one area that Dolly has excelled. From acting to opening her own successful theme park, Dollywood, and helping hundreds of thousands of people with her generosity and kindness, Dolly Parton is truly the whole package and more.
As someone on top of the world, Dolly remains humble and giving, making this dedication to her timeless.
Another commenter says,
“Beautiful performance by mega-talented women. I loved it; it was sung so sincerely and straight from the heart.”
With so many incredible people performing simultaneously, it would be easy for one to take over and outshine the others, but this isn’t the case here. All five of these women work perfectly together as another person put’s it, “Nobody is “the best.” They all have unique styles and stages presences, and they all sang it beautifully. No outshining on that stage.”
It is beautiful to hear all of these talented women showing their love and respect for a woman that helped paved the way for others in the music industry.
Out of all the Dolly Parton songs that they could have performed, “I Will Always Love You” seems the most fitting.
At the end of the performance, Reba says, “Gosh, dang it, Dolly, we love you to pieces.” And we think most people will agree; we will always love Dolly.
One thing is clear; we will always love Dolly.
