No one likes having a messy carpet, but carpets are certainly easy to stain! Between walking and spilling on them and rubbing the mess deep down into the fabric, carpets can turn into a real nightmare. Fear not: cleaning your carpet doesn’t need to be a source of anxiety. Here are some simple hacks to remove 8 different types of carpet stains.

First things first: use a dry towel to blot off any extra wine that may be resting on the surface of the carpet. Then pour enough vinegar to completely cover the stain. Blot the carpet dry; be sure not to rub it or you will only make it worse. Sprinkle a spoonful of baking soda over the area, brush it in well with something small like a toothbrush, then blot the carpet one last time. Good as new!

You may have heard that chocolate stains are permanent, but this doesn’t always need to be the case. Let the chocolate harden all the way through. Use a blunt object to scrape the extra chocolate off of the floor. Next add a mixture of detergent and water, covering the stain. Scrub it into the carpet, and blot dry. As someone who loves chocolate, this hack is a life saver!

Oil stains are just no fun. To get the stain out with ease, sprinkle a spoonful of cornstarch over the area. Let it soak for about 30 minutes. Squeeze some dish soap over the stain, then brush it all into the carpet with that toothbrush. Brush it well, add water, and brush some more. Dry it up, and you are good to go.

Coffee stains are the worst! Blot off any extra liquid that may be resting on top of the carpet. Pour on detergent and water, and blot it into the rug. Brush in a splash of vinegar. After a few moments you should be able to blot the carpet dry.

First pour on a generous dose of rubbing alcohol. Next blot out as much of the stain as you can. Repeat the process until all of the ink has disappeared. It may take a few turns, but your carpet will look amazing when you are done.

Candle Wax

Candles can be quite messy, and the wax is tricky to get out. Place a damp paper towel over the stain. Then run an iron on medium heat over the towel. After a few minutes, the wax will melt right off. Repeat until all of the wax has lifted from the fabric. Next pour rubbing alcohol over the area, and brush it in. See, that wasn’t so bad!

Paint

Home projects are enough of a headache without spilling paint on the carpet. Luckily, there is a simple solution. Mix together 1 1/2 teaspoons of vinegar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of detergent, and two cups of water. Use a sponge to scrub away the paint, and rinse the area with cold water. It is best to clean the carpet while the paint is still wet, before it has a chance to set.

Carpets will never be fun to clean, but the whole process can be a lot easier with these simple tips. Enjoy clean carpets throughout your home.
