Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Recalled For Salmonella Risk

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers sure are tasty, but now, they may be dangerous. The company recently issued a recall after it learned that one of the ingredients in the crackers was recalled due to the possible presence of salmonella.

The company released a statement about the recall.

“Pepperidge Farm has been notified by one of its ingredient suppliers that whey powder in a seasoning that is applied to four varieties of crackers has been the subject of a recall by the whey powder manufacturer due to the potential presence of Salmonella. Pepperidge Farm initiated an investigation and, out of an abundance of caution, is voluntarily recalling four varieties of Goldfish crackers. The products were distributed throughout the United States. No illnesses have been reported. No other Pepperidge Farm products in the U.S. are subject to this recall.

“The following four varieties with the indicated codes are subject to this recall:

  • Flavor Blasted® Xtra Cheddar
  • Flavor Blasted® Sour Cream & Onion
  • Goldfish® Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar
  • Goldfish® Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel”

“Different packaging options are included in this recall. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them. Salmonella is a bacterium that can live on a variety of foods.

If eaten, it can live in a person’s digestive tract and make them sick. The symptoms of salmonella infection are pretty nasty, and in severe cases, it can be fatal. People with weakened immune systems may become severely ill.

According to Symptom Find, the symptoms of salmonella poisoning include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Bloody stool

These tasty little Goldfish crackers aren’t the first to be recalled this year.

So far, no illnesses have been reported because of eating either brand of crackers.

The recalls are both voluntary. If you have either of these cracker brands in your pantry or any of the crackers on the recall list, throw them out or return them to the nearest store. Salmonella is a nasty infection that you don’t want to experience.
