The World’s Biggest Tarantulas Are On The Loose In The UK
If you live in this area...WATCH OUT!

Spiders are something that most of us are afraid of. Not only do they look like they belong in nightmares, but many species are also poisonous. And when it comes to arachnophobia or the fear of spiders, the term might very well belong to the tarantula.

While some people keep them as pets, most of us only like them in prank videos. But if you happen to be a resident of Derbyshire in the United Kingdom, then you might just end up in one of those videos.

A Giant Problem

If you have a particular dislike of large spiders, then Derbyshire is definitely not meant for you as of now. It is believed that a few Brazilian bird-eating spiders, the world’s biggest tarantulas, are loose in the city. They just happen to be one of the largest known species of spiders with a leg span of around 10 inches. As if the size isn’t scary enough, they can also inject poisonous venom with their fangs.

Spider Menace

Derbyshire Live reported a case where a car hit some containers which had been inconveniently located in a parking space. Reportedly, the driver of the car saw a couple of giant spiders escape. Since no bodies have been found, it is assumed that they are still alive and dangerous. The RSPCA has issued a warning to all citizens that if they do come across the spiders, they should alert authorities. No one should approach the giant arachnids.

“Itsy Bitsy” Spider

What is interesting about the incident is that there were more than just 2 pots. The remaining ones contained baby spiders. RSPCA inspector Kristy Ludlam told Derbyshire Live that when they took the pots to an expert, three baby arachnids were discovered. They are believed to be the Brazilian bird-eating variety.

One Tragedy Averted

If not for the accident, the baby spiders would probably have died because they are accustomed to living in humid and warm conditions. Thankfully, the authorities have kept the pots warm and secure which might actually lead to more of the eggs hatching.

Criminal Activities

Kristy further revealed that releasing or allowing the escape of any non-native species into the wild is illegal, and that they are concerned about why anyone would leave the spiders out in the open like that.

A Word of Advice

Kristy stated that they believe the spiders were most likely to have been pets who may have been breeding but were abandoned for some reason. She also advised people to do a carefully look into the needs of an animal before adopting any. Pet ownership (even if the pet is a spider) comes with its fair share of responsibility and it is a good idea to know if you will have the time and resources before adopting.

Be Careful Where You Step

The baby spiders found in Derbyshire have been taken to a veterinarian where they will be cared for until they are ready to be relocated to somewhere much more appropriate than a parking lot.

One thing that is definitely worrying the authorities is the fact that the adult spiders are still at large. Not only are the spiders in danger themselves, but they may also pose a risk to any who come across them. If that doesn’t give you arachnophobia, nothing will.
