The 2018 Stanley Cup was won Thursday night in Las Vegas by The Washington Capitals in a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

It was a huge win for the Capitals and Washington.

It was the Capitals first title win in 44 years and the first big four team win Washington has seen since the Redskins won the Super Bowl in 1992.

But one of the biggest highlights of the night that followed their win was the team’s right winger T.J. Oshie’s victory embrace with his father.

Oshie spent seven years in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues before being traded to the Capitals.

Oshie was “mic’d up” after his win to reveal an emotional embrace with his father. The two held each other tight and exchanged “I Love Yous” in a touching moment that has gone viral (see it at 6:27).

“We did it,” Oshie said to his dad. “You’re not gonna forget this one, huh?”

“I love you son,” his dad, Tim Oshie, replied.

Oshie would later explain that comment in a follow-up interview.

He explained that his father has Alzheimer’s disease and has an inconsistent memory. His father has been diagnosed about five years ago.

“My dad … he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff these days,” Oshie, 31, said in the interview, fighting back tears. “But he remembers enough. But I tell you what, he’s here tonight. I don’t know where he is at. But this one will stick with him forever. You can guarantee that.”

Tim Oshie, 50, coached one of his son’s youth teams and moved with his son from Washington to Minnesota after he and his wife divorced.

Tim Oshie and Oshie have dreamt of Oshie’s Stanley cup win since Oshie began skating at the age of 3.

“To have him here is amazing,” Oshie told reporters. “He doesn’t travel very well. I’ve been trying to find a good way to get home out all playoffs. It was kind of the perfect storm to get him in with my aunt and sister from Seattle.”

The video of Oshie’s interview ended up going viral and really touched people on an emotional level.

“You don’t see many player interviews as powerful as that one with T.J. Oshie. Wow. What a glimpse of the human impact of sports on families,” one person Tweeted.

“BRB….TJ Oshie just made me bawl. Hope his dad is soaking it all in and smiling the biggest smile he’s ever smiled!! Sir, your son just made all of Minnesota so proud!” said another.

“I FaceTimed with my dad, who is the reason we’re Caps fans, as time ran out. This made me very thankful I could do that,” and another.

“Hard not to get a little emotional watching T.J Oshie talk about his dad who was a fixture at the rink during his time in St.Louis. How could u not be happy for Osh.”

Oshie made headlines again later that night while the Capitals were partying it up after their big win.

He was leaving Cafe Milano and getting onto a bus to hit up the team’s next party spot.

That’s when a mob of fans started chanting, “Oshie! Oshie! Oshie! But Oshie didn’t want to take all the glory for himself and changed to the chant to “We got the Cup!” and “Let’s go Caps!”

According to USA Today, the Caps were on a partying streak for at least two days after their win.

They were, after all, in Las Vegas.

And they brought the Stanley Cup with them everywhere they went!
