Luke Spring was only 4 years old when he stepped onto the stage at the D.C. Tap Festival. He stood meekly in the limelight, waiting for his performance to begin. The audience stared up as members wondered what this young artist would bring to the stage.

Then Justin M. Lewis, the boy’s tap dance instructor, stepped forward. The two were dressed quite similarly, both wearing black slacks, a white button-up, and a black tie. The only real difference was in their shoes: Luke wore black tap dance shoes while Justin wore white ones. It was clear to everyone in the audience that this was a duo.
