A typical day of high school usually consists of classes, lectures, lunch, and maybe some afterschool activities. Once in a while the kids may have an assembly or special project to work on. But, for the most part, you pretty much know what types of things are going to be covered at school. That’s why what happened at one high school has people talking
One group of Ohio high school students signed up for something that you wouldn’t categorize as part of your “normal” school day, not be far.
When you take a look at pictures like this, can you imagine what was going on here? The students got out of the classroom, but they got much more than that.

We’ll fill you in. This teacher was spraying his students with pepper spray!
Before you start to get angry and wonder why a teacher would ever do this, the students actually volunteered for it! It happened during a class about criminal science technology in a high school outside of Akron, Ohio.
The teacher, who happens to be the town’s former police chief, went down the line spraying each student in the eyes with pepper spray.
As you can imagine, their reaction was horrifying! Some said it felt like a volcano in their eyes.
All of the parents had to sign waivers, understanding the effects of pepper spray. The letter explained the pepper spray would cause a burning sensation to the eyes and nasal area for about 30 minutes to one hour afterwards.
Despite this, they still signed on to do it.
The pepper spray project was part of the defensive tactics training the class had been covering. So, the teacher wasn’t spraying them for any other reason. Once the video went viral three years ago, it had a lot of people shaking their heads.
Some people have called it “horrifying” and said “no one should have to go through this.” But, their parents consented to the lesson and the students volunteered. Those who did not get permission and did not volunteer, did not get sprayed.
You can hear the students screaming as the teacher went down the line, spraying each one. Some even fell to their knees. The screams kept getting louder and louder as more students had their turn.
A mother of one of the students shot this video that went viral. It has had more 22 million views over the past three years.
The mom says she didn’t realize the pepper spray was going to be that painful, despite the warnings, but was proud of all the kids for doing it. The woman’s son says he felt the effects of the pepper spray for a couple of days afterwards, but then it wore off.
Many of the students are planning a career in the military or law enforcement which is probably why they volunteered to see how it felt to get pepper sprayed. Nevertheless, it’s certainly a lesson they will never forget.
