2020 has been a weird year.

Let’s face it – we’ve experienced a decade worth of events all within 2020, and for most of us, the COVID-19 global pandemic is the first pandemic we’ve ever witnessed and faced in our lifetime. Companies all around the world are rushing to find a vaccine to the virus. Governments are shutting down in hopes of containing it. Meanwhile, many of us have been stuck inside our homes, unable to resume the normalcy of life we used to love (and maybe take for granted, I know I did in hindsight).

For those of us that can’t simply stay put inside, we’re faced with the internal struggle of whether or not we should go outside and risk getting others sick (in case we’re a carrier) or risk getting sick ourselves and exposing our loved ones. Medical departments around the world are urging the community to wear masks and practice hygienic behavior such as frequent hand washing and social distancing. This, in theory, should make it safer for those of us to go outside, but unfortunately, there are those who don’t take the virus as seriously as others.

Let’s face it, it’s not always easy to adhere to the rules, and while we try our best to follow the rules and safety guidelines ourselves, there are going to be those individuals who feel the virus is not dangerous at all. These individuals may not believe in social distancing, believe masks affect their own personal liberties, and they may not wash their hands as frequently.

Fortunately, manufacturers and companies have created a clever innovation to improve our way of life and mitigate the spread of germs and viruses while outside. Recently, many companies have introduced a number of touch tools to help people open doors, press buttons, use touchpads, and avoid contact with high-touch surfaces.

These “touch tools,” “hygiene tools,” “cootie keys”, or however you’d like to call them are very handy in preventing the spread of germs and viruses through public surfaces. Because of the numerous options out there, we’ve asked experts to rank their favorite touch tools, starting with the best first:

1) Best Overall 100% Brass Touch Tool: Scrubbd Hygiene Touch Tool ($19.99)

After testing multiple touch tools, the Scrubbd Hygiene Touch Tool is hands down, the best choice. This touch tool is made of 100% brass, which is the most important feature to consider. Other touch tools contain a mixture of metals, and science has shown that viruses and germs can only last for minutes on brass. While it’s slightly more expensive than other options, we feel it’s worth the increase in price because of the quality and extra protection you’ll be receiving.

In addition, we found the metal hook on this touch tool the easiest to use. The front end of the tool protrudes more than others, and allows you to have added leverage when pulling doors open. Furthermore, the angle of the tool makes it inherently easier to open doors without the tool slipping

We also love that the tip of the tool can be used as a stylus for touchscreens. In tests, we found it extremely easy to use the tool to sign our names on keypads or to use at the ATM.

The added bonus of a bottle opener is a nice, functional, touch. Since many of carry around bottle openers with us, why not carry this multifunctional tool instead?

2) Best Looking: Peel Keychain Touch Tool ($35.00)

If you’re all about looks, then look no further than the Peel Keychain Touch Tool. This is by far the most aesthetically pleasing touch tool. It can open doors, push buttons, and also open bottles. We just didn’t find it as easy to use as the Scrubbd Hygiene Touch Tool.

3) Best Budget: OYEFLY Hygiene No-Touch Hand Tool ($8.98)

This option starts off at $9 and ships via Amazon. If you’re looking for a budget option, then this is the best choice. It’s made of 70% copper and 30% zinc.

Here are our picks for the best touch tools. We hope this guide has helped you on your journey to find the best one for you. Please remember to stay safe!
