What the heck?!

No two parents raise their kids the same way.

Every parent has their own techniques on how to keep their children preoccupied.

Some give their little ones toys like Legos or dolls to play with for hours. Meanwhile, most modern parents prefer buying their kids smart devices which they use to play games like Fortnite or watch videos on YouTube.

Still, some parents have other methods.

One extreme example is the family of this Indonesian toddler who was caught on video playing with a huge snake.

A different approach to parenting

As a general rule, we make it a point not to judge how other parents choose to raise their kids. So we’re pretty open-minded when it comes new parenting techniques.

Live and let live, right?

But we have to say, seeing this kid play wrestle with a giant python more than twice his size really left us biting our fingernails. It’s not every day this we encounter something this fascinating, bizarre, and just downright scary. And we’re sure we’re not the only ones who can say that.

Indonesia’s version of Kaa and Mowgli

According to UniLad, the video was taken in a province in Eastern Java, Indonesia where the boy lives with his family and their python.

If you’re brave enough to watch the video, you’ll notice that the kid is cuddling with the python. Surprisingly, he doesn’t seem or sound to be in distress at all.

In fact, the boy sounds like he’s having the time of his life just as if he was playing with any of his village friends. There’s even a point in the video when the boy playfully ‘strangles’ the python before putting its head near his own face.

We can’t help but be reminded of The Jungle Book’s Mowgli and Kaa who are also an odd pair of friends.

And if fiction really does imitate reality, then we wouldn’t have to worry much about the boy as Kaa turned out to be a great mentor and friend to Mowgli…in the movie.

But in the Disney film, we also see a different Kaa who hypnotizes Mowgli and tries to eat him a couple of times. We just hope this Indonesian Kaa doesn’t turn against this boy. After all, pythons are known for being strong snakes who can easily wrap their bodies around their prey and crush their bones before eating their victim whole.

Yep. Nail biting.

Others aren’t as fortunate

Unfortunately, some people aren’t as lucky as our boy.

One example is Sanjoy Dutta, a man from the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India, who was choked while trying to pose for photos with a python around his neck. And not too far from there, an Indonesian woman, Wa Tiba, in Sulawesi was found dead in the stomach of a 27-foot python.

Her sons initially thought that their mother had just gone missing back in June. Alarms were raised and the village people started looking for the middle-aged woman.

They would, later on, find her sandals, torch, and machete abandoned near a rough patch of bushes not more than 30 meters away from their home. Within the bush is where they made the startling discovery of a python lying on the ground with a bulged stomach after swallowing the woman ‘head first.’

Pythons are no joke. We’re just hoping this one family pet stays well behaved.
