Listening to the amazingly talented singers who bravely blind audition on The Voice, one wonders just how they do it. They stare at the backs of oversized red chairs, silently willing someone, anyone to hit the red buzzer and spin around while giving their performance everything they’ve got.

The Voice not only is a wildly popular show in America that debuted in 2011, but it actually is an international TV series. The original Voice premiered in Holland and there are more than a dozen countries with the entertaining television show.

During the blind auditions for The Voice Norway, singer Kristin Husoy opted to sing “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” which was made popular by Roberta Flack in the ’70s.

With Roberta’s sultry voice, the song skyrocketed to the top of the charts in the United States and Canada. It also reached the No. 6 slot on the UK singles chart.

The emotionally riddled song has been covered by many other artists, too. The version recorded by the Fugees won the 1997 Grammy for best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal. No matter who sang it, the lyrics remained powerful.

“I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style. And so I came to see him, to listen for a while. And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes. Strumming my pain with his fingers (one time, one time). Singing my life with his words (two times, two times). Killing me softly with his song. Killing me softly with his song. Telling my whole life with his words. Killing me softly with his song.”

When Kristin begins singing, dressed in a casual sweater, jeans and sneakers, the judges perk up.

With their backs to her, all they can hear is her deep, rich and sultry sound.

One coach named Yosef sways back and forth to her song and just a few strains into her performance, he smacks the red buzzer and spins his chair around, grinning hugely as he lays eyes on Kristin. Not only is her voice beautiful, but she’s a knockout with charisma and a strong stage presence.

Kristin also puts her own spin on the song, using runs and infusing emotion into the words. The judge in the yellow sweatshirt, Martin, jams out in his chair, clapping along as she sings.

The show’s host and Kristin’s fan club are watching from the wings and point to the goosebumps that crop up on their arms while she sings. Yosef motions to the remaining two judges not to spin around and try to claim her talent for themselves, because he wants her all to himself.

But when Kristin nails a note that impresses everyone, Martin smacks the red buzzer and spins around giving Yosef a run for his money. Even though the other two judges didn’t hit their buzzers and spin their chairs around, they still jam out to the rest of her performance.

You can visually see her breath a huge sigh of relief when she hits that final note, thrilled that two judges had spun around just for her.
