Microblading is a fairly common procedure. For those who don’t know, it is a form of tattooing. Essentially what is happening is pigment is being implanted underneath the person’s skin with a manual handheld tool, as opposed to a machine.

The artist draws hair-like strokes to make it look natural, creating a fuller-looking brow.

Microblading is a great semi-permanent solution for people with thinner brows and it is definitely a hot beauty trend that has grown in the last few years.

Many major celebrities have been known to get the work done, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Mandy Moore, Mila Kunis and more.

However, it has not been proved successful for every single person.

One woman in particular, Inside Edition‘s Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero was excited to give it a shot, but it did not go as smoothly as she had hoped.

She recorded the entire process from start to finish and shared it on her YouTube channel, and you can watch her microblading horror story below.

Lisa did some research and made sure to go to a registered nurse who used new, sterile blades.

“I can definitely feel it, but it doesn’t hurt,” Lisa said during the procedure.

Seems fair, until something went horribly wrong just a few days later. Suddenly, puss was oozing from her eyebrows. She had a staph infection.

“This has taken a turn for the worse,” Lisa shared along with photos of her infected face.

Then Lisa did some more research on the internet and it turns out this is not at all abnormal. In fact, there were hundreds of microblading horror stories to be found all across the web. She was most certainly not the first one.

Inside Edition then spoke to 42-year-old Jami Ledbetter, who also suffered from some serious post-procedure damage. She showed some images.

Jami shared that the $250 procedure was a birthday gift from her daughters… A birthday gift that left her with four eyebrows.

“I was an emotional wreck,” Jami admitted. She then looked up the background of the woman who gave her the procedure, only to find that this woman didn’t really have much experience at all.

“I found out she got her certification online… She had no instruction whatsoever. She just watched a course.”

Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, cosmetic dermatologist and founder of PFRANKMD & Skin Salon noted the importance of doing your research ahead of time and confirmed that unfortunately, you do get what you pay for.

“You get what you pay for and often it’s inexperienced microbladers that are really just looking for new patients to practice on,” he told Inside Edition. “Microblading should be done in the utmost sanitary conditions and my recommendation is in a medical office environment, which is exactly what we do. This way, any complications, as rare as they are, can be managed appropriately,”

Jami has spent over 6 months undergoing repairs for her eyebrows, while luckily Lisa has recovered. However, they both learned a very important lesson and aren’t just going to go back without doing any research.

Microblading can absolutely botch your brows, which is why you must take extra precaution before, during, and after the process!
