You’ve seen the jokes about “quarantine and chill”, and the prediction that there will be a 2020 baby boom. What else are you going to do when you’re stuck inside with your partner all day?
But now that more than three months have passed, we’re seeing proof of those predictions coming true. The baby announcements are here! And a lot of parents have found creative and hilarious COVID-themed ways to share the news with friends and family.
1) A little Coronita
I love the added touch of the Corona beers, especially the “Coronita” edition that are teeny tiny! I would absolutely die if I found out my friend was having a baby this way! Too cute.

2) An early announcement
Everyone is expecting the pandemic to cause a modern day baby boom. What else is there to do when you’re stuck at home all day?! But it’s actually been predicted that there could be a baby “bust” instead.
Well, that obviously isn’t the case for this couple though. They’re welcoming baby number three!

3) This couple who forgot protection
You can have masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves during the pandemic. You can stock up on toilet paper. But if you don’t stock up on baby protection then… well, you get a baby!

4) I hope it was a deliberate choice
We’re always seeing the news talk about the dangers of not wearing a mask or keeping six feet of distance. But they don’t usually count pregnancy as one of the risk factors. This couple would beg to differ!

5) Very subtle
This one has a lot going on! The Netflix & Chill in the background gives some context. The glass of Corona was necessary. It seems the pregnant one is eating for two. All fantastic.
However… the Prego sauce? That takes the cake. Hilarious!
6) I think you’ve got enough sanitizer
You can have allll the sanitizer in the world, but it doesn’t matter how many times you clean your hands, it doesn’t protect you from everything. But what a nice addition to the family for this little guy! He gets to be a big brother.
7) I’ll be there for you
Who doesn’t love a good Friends episode?

8) How to pass the time
There’s certainly one way to make staying at home a little more interesting, as long as you’re stuck with the right person. Not only did they have time to make a whole baby, they also were able to repurpose this nice chopping board and use it for their pregnancy announcement. Very crafty!
9) Rise of the quaranteens
These parents-to-be are already thinking ahead to the future. Not just the possibility of a quarantine baby boom, but the “quaranteens” of 2033!

10) This elaborate LEGO setup
Okay, this is too cute for words. It’s unclear if the family are shareholders at LEGO, or if they just really really love it a lot…but I guess we all do. But either way, their precious pregnancy announcement is so creative and cute! The expression on the dad’s face though!

11) Social distance fail
They call it a fail for the ‘gram, but you can tell the new parents are actually very excited. And it looks like their first son is ready to be a big brother too! This is just one of the many baby announcements for December.

12) A pandemic travel baby
This family of world travellers turned lemons into lemonade. They had to pause their trip (or really, their whole lifestyle) due to the pandemic, which was pretty disheartening. But now they’re adding a third baby into the mix!
They’re already seasoned parents and have learned how to travel long term with two toddlers, so a third should be a breeze.

13) Long term social distancing
This baby is still “social distancing” until December. And depending on how things go, and how many people start wearing their masks, the little one may want to stay in there. But I’m hopeful that the world will be a better place by the time all these COVID babies are ready to enter the world!

14) Quarantining in the womb
This dad sees the 9 month pregnancy a little differently – as a form of quarantine. Seems like a pretty cozy place to be right now actually. Away from all the chaos!

15) COVID twins
These parents got double what they bargained for. Not just one COVID baby, but two! It seems that kind of protection was overlooked when everyone was rushing for the lysol and masks. Oops!

16) How to keep yourselves entertained
Yes, it seems some parents have come up with a good way to pass the time while on lockdown. Who doesn’t love a good surprise?
View this post on InstagramA post shared by NA designs (@nadesignsco) on
17) Last one, promise
This little onesie says “last one, promise.” But how can they be so sure? We have no idea how long this lockdown will go on for… especially if there’s a second wave! But at least the new baby will keep them busy if they need a distraction.
18) They tried, they failed
We’re all struggling with social distancing, but it seems it’s harder for some more than others. I mean, it’s lucky that those rules don’t apply at home, or a lot of expectant parents would be in trouble!

19) Babies make great pandemic models
It’s crazy enough to think about how many babies have already been brought into the world in the middle of a global pandemic. The photos, like this one, of children holding toilet paper rolls, or wearing little mini face masks are so cute. In a few months, they’ll have two adorable babies to pose with pandemic-themed items.
20) Out of toilet paper, and maybe birth control
This crazy pandemic led to baby number six for this family! Life comes at you fast and is full of surprises, but they will surely be well equipped to handle this one. This social media announcement complete with toilet paper rolls could not be more 2020.

21) As if 2020 couldn’t get crazier
Even the teddy bear is wearing a mask! You really can’t be too careful can you? Especially not with a new baby on the way! 2020 is full of surprises, and it seems for this mama-to-be, this pregnancy was an even bigger surprise than any of the other wild things that have happened yet this year.

22) Making the most of quarantine
“Proof that quarantine wasn’t always boring”, she says. This is how to make the best of your time indoors, if you ask me. Take notes! But also be prepared.

23) Couples, be warned
There’s social distancing, and then there’s physical distancing… and then there’s physical distancing. Well, evidently, this couple did not physically distance. But they seem excited about it so that’s okay!
24) Multi-purpose Corona
I love that Corona beer is included in a lot of these baby announcements. I wonder if the beer had anything to do with the conception… or if it’s there exclusively for the coronavirus connection. Either way, amazing.
25) Lockdown food babies
I would carry this sign around with me everywhere I went – just to be clear. It seems everyone in lockdown is either getting pregnant… or a little fat. And unfortunately for me, I am not pregnant.

26) It’s like Christmas came early!
These parents and their adorable little cat look very excited about their new baby! With so many newborns expected in December, a lot of couples must be feeling like it’s an early Christmas. At least they have something to look forward to this year. As for the rest of us… well… time will tell.
27) A beacon of light
Their outlook on this is beautiful: in a world of bad news, they have something exciting to share. More adorable baby announcements, please! We need more of these among all the crazy news.

28) You get it
This is one is nice and straight to the point. Once the little muchkin is born and they take them for a walk in the stroller, everyone will know exactly what happened. Hilarious!

29) Purell is not baby prevention
Purell won’t do anything towards baby prevention! That’s a different kind of protection… But it seems like these parents-to-be couldn’t be happier with their baby news.
30) Corona baby onesie
This is such an awesome baby shower gift idea! It may make your baby look a little bit like an alcoholic from afar… but I think people will pick up on the joke quickly.

31) The Office and chill
This American Office fan has been doing more than just binging her favorite TV show during lockdown. Netflix and chill? Only if Michael Scott is present.

32) This rainbow baby
The pandemic has been tough on a lot of people, but is there anything more uplifting than the news of a new baby? Especially a rainbow baby (born to a couple who have previously lost a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or during infancy). I can’t think of anything more beautiful! I’m so happy for these two and their little one on the way.

33) Not a food baby, a fourth baby
The whole family looks so enthusiastic about this news! I love it. And it doesn’t look to me like Mom has a food baby let alone a real baby cookin’ in the oven, but hey. It’s good to clarify anyway. I wonder if they’ll have a fourth boy, or their first girl!

34) These onesies are too cute
Onesies for two very special kinds of baby – a rainbow baby and a quarantine baby. Or maybe two different outfits for a baby who’s both!
Quarantine babies are basically all that’s keeping us going right now. Hope for the future! We need to create a better world for them to live in.

35) This baby conceived in the Caribbean
Ooooh the little wooden circle with the coordinates too? Too cute! And it wouldn’t be a COVID baby announcement without the quintessential Corona beer (in the second photo).

36) Had him on lockdown
I love the word play here! But for a Mommy blogger I’m not surprised. Her youngest soon-to-be big brother doesn’t look too excited about it… but I’m sure he’ll come around!

37) Baby number four
Quarantine’s catching up with a lot of parents! Even those who already have a full house. This couple is excited to be welcoming baby number four into the world – which will hopefully be COVID-free by then.

38) The cutest t-shirt
I always love big brother and big sister printed clothing. It’s such a fun way to get the kids excited about their new sibling! But especially with the cheeky social distancing angle? Perfection.
39) This mama that used a meme
And then there’s this approach. They’ve disregarded the cute staged photo ops and COVID-appropriate props. They’ve gone straight to the point with a Kardashian meme. Considering we’re all basically relying on memes as a coping mechanism for the crazy world we live in right now, this seems fitting.

40) And finally, this dog who did not social distance either
So far we’ve seen no evidence that dogs can catch the virus (though there have been some tigers??), so they’ve not been mandated to social distance. But since so many people have been on lockdown, we half expect our dogs to be doing the same!
But this little gal didn’t keep her distance and is now expecting some puppies! I love that her owners got on the COVID pregnancy announcement trend.

So as we can see, December and January are already going to be busy months for babies! Dr. Melissa Richards, an OBGYN at Olmsted County Medical Center, weighed in on their current numbers. “In 2019, we had 58 deliveries in December. This year we are tracking to deliver 80 patients.”
Surprise! At least some good has come out of this pandemic.
