When living in the wild there are so many different noises and sensations to become acquainted with when you are firstborn. As humans, we are immediately sheltered safe and sound with a roof over our heads. Our parents nearby and there to hold us whenever we are scared. But for animals that isn’t always the case. They become introduced to snowstorms, thunderstorms, sweltering hot days, and other varieties of weather depending on their environment. All while avoiding predators, what to eat, and figuring out how to fly or walk depending on what animal they are. So much to learn and understand but at first the world around them can be quite scary, especially, when alone!
In Thixendale, North Yorkshire a British wildlife artist named Robert E Fuller captures one baby barn owl hearing thunder for the very first time.
Robert writes in his caption beneath the video describing his work,
“I use surveillance cameras hidden inside owl nests to better understand their behavior for my wildlife paintings.”
With the nest cameras, he can capture the unique and individual characters of different animal species in a way that is usually unseen before and use that for his art.
This cute baby owl chick is only two and a half months old. As this baby chick is learning about the environment that surrounds it one of many terrifying thunderstorms passes which absolutely spooks the young one.
Robert writes in his description beneath the video on youtube that this baby owl just found the courage to take the first flight only two weeks before this moment but is still using the nest we see in the video for shelter.
In this short clip, we see the owl uneasy with the noises that are happening around the nest. We can see just how nervous this baby owl is by the look in its eyes!
Then all of a sudden we hear the loud booms and cracks of the thunder and lighting. As the booms sound over the nest, it makes the little one take tiny steps backward to be safe against the side of its nest.
One user on Youtube, Night Shadow, shares their thoughts and what we all are thinking,
“Aw, look at those little steps backward. Someone give him a hug.”
Another user on Youtube, Aaron Graham, comments what he believes the little baby could be thinking,
“He’s looking at the camera like ‘y’all ain’t gon help??'”
As the clip ends we see the baby owl just staying close to the side of the nest to find comfort as the storm passes.
We can all agree that big thunderstorms such as the one this little owl is experiencing for the first can be quite scary! Even after we as humans and other animal species get through our first scary thunderstorm as we continue to grow up the ways of mother nature can still get us spooked and leave us speechless all at the same time. But once we get through the first we know now we have the courage to get through it.
