The “Shag’ is a six-count style of swing dance, usually done to beach music. It is thought to have originated in South Carolina, and has been around since the 1940’s. It’s got high energy, but is really smooth and even sexy.

It’s a dance born on the beaches as the youth of that era stepped and twirled the night away. No likes or reacts, just lots of fun and talent.

These two young dancers have been making waves in competitions.

They give new meaning to the words precision and excellent timing.

The Shag is just so much fun to watch. It’s so laid back but not boring. There is a certain tempo to it that balances out the basic steps from the more advanced footwork.

It’s not just fancy footwork with shag, but many fun twists and turns… literally!

Not to mention gravity-defying dips and drops!

Billy has some pretty fancy moves. It’s like you can’t tell anymore which are his arms or legs. With low-bouncing leg-moves that would make a Cossack blush, Billy dazzles the crowd with his moves all while impressing the judges.

He pulls off a very impressive version of a typical Shag move.

Billy crouches low, legs crossed, and rocks back and forth between his feet in a way that seems like a blend between a Russian Cossack dance and a 1950’s “twist”. It’s as if the Beach boys were in fact from Moscow… and competed in junior dance competitions.

And let’s not forget how wonderfully talented Brooke is as well!

She’s a highly competent performer and it’s clear that her fancy footwork is part of what makes these two such formidable competitors in the dance arena.

Brooke steps with pure confidence and moves around the stage with the grace and expertise of a veteran dancer.
